Day 4: The Victory Garden of Tomorrow

“There is ground all around us that can and should be cultivated. It’s in empty city lots, on rooftops, in window boxes, and other surprising nooks and crannies.”

- Joe Wirtheim, designer of The Victory Garden of Tomorrow

Day 4:

Joe Wirtheim is an artist who promotes everything we love here at Living Homegrown. In a very charming way, he encourages urban farming, farmer’s markets, home canning, and even raising chickens.

He is committed to promoting:

  • Better food
  • Better gardens
  • Better cities

It is always exciting when you find someone who cleverly displays messages you find important. So it is with Joe Wirtheim. He is the designer behind a self-commissioned poster campaign over at The Victory Garden of Tomorrow.

I love his stuff! His posters, t-shirts, postcards and more are reminiscent of World War II-era propaganda posters but reinvented with a modern message. And they are cool. Very cool.

Who wouldn’t want to proudly wear one of these t-shirts or hang one of these posters on their wall?

Based in Portland, OR, Joe is currently taking a hiatus while traveling the world. However, his art is still available to us through Buyolympia. I contacted him and he says he has some new GREAT things coming in the spring. New images and new products. I can’t wait. You can keep up with his latest commissions through his Facebook page.

This post is part of the 31 Days of Living Homegrown. Sign up for my newsletter (weekly or monthly) so you don’t miss any of the inspiration and resources I will be sharing for living local, fresh and homegrown!

Note: I am only promoting these products because I believe in them. I was not compensated in any way to write this post, nor do I receive any sort of commission.
