Los Angeles Garden Show: Featuring Edible Plants

Yesterday, I went to the LA Garden Show at the Los Angeles Arboretum. It was fabulous! The theme was:

WooHoo!  Yes, I was in heaven wondering acres of edible landscapes that could be grown in backyards, pots, and balconies. They featured organics and sustainable gardening practices and lots of cool garden designs.

Here is just one of the clever garden features – An edible wall by Go Green Gardeners.

It is made out of an old winery rack (where they would stick the wine bottles to age). It is wood and already has holes waiting to be filled with plants.

Here is the backside. You can see how they used plastic fencing to hold in the soil.

Very cool.

More photos to come tomorrow!

Ooh! I hope you get more photos up soon. That living wall is so, so cool!! I’m happy to hear the LA show had an edible theme, every other show I went to this year almost completely missed the edible boat.

  • Kerry says:

That is soooo cool. I’m trying to think of other things you could do this with.

  • Hey Willi – Thanks for stopping by! I just LOVED the Sunset story on you. Awesome!

I agree…For whatever reason, most of the shows did not have many veggies this year. San Fran had the most out of all the “big” shows. But the LA show was ALL veggies, herbs, fruits. It was incredible.

I already posted more photos (containers) today and more are going up tomorrow. Stay tuned…

  • Hi Kerry-

I think it would look lovely with all strawberries or all herbs (like thyme). I just love the whole “edible wall” idea.

  • Sure like the edible wall.

We have a spot against a garden shed that an edible wall may be the right landscaping improvement.

Always looking for attractive ideas to use in the Portland, Oregon, area.

California gardens have many nifty components.
